This album pays homage to the “master-disciple” transmission of Italian Baroque singing, evoking the depths of the relationship between teachers and students, tracing a musical journey through stylistic developments from the 17th to the 18th century.
Ophélie Gaillard takes you on a journey to discover Baroque Naples! Continuing her exploration of the cello repertoire, *Napoli!* immerses itself in the Mediterranean city, meeting its iconic characters along the way. We encounter virtuosos like Fiorenza, Lanzetti, and Francischello, composers such as Durante and Leo, the Spaniard Ortiz, and the Madrilenian Corselli. And, in the twists and turns of a sonata or dance, we even meet Scaramouche, Harlequin, and their commedia dell’arte companions… It is within this rich tapestry that the Neapolitan soul is revealed: hybrid, sensual, contrasting, both theatrical and deeply authentic.
Alongside the Pulcinella Orchestra, as well as Sandrine Piau, Marina Viotti, and Luan Góes, Ophélie Gaillard’s cello draws from these multiple sources, blending the popular with the lyrical, the secular with the sacred.
