João began his musical studies at the age of 11, graduating in 2009 from the Brazilian Conservatory of Music and in 2015 from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He gained recognition as the winner of the 2013 “X Villa-Lobos Piano Competition,” and has since earned numerous awards in various competitions, including the “Federal University of Rio de Janeiro Symphony Orchestra Young Soloist Competition” (2011), “XVI Arnaldo Estrella Piano Competition” (2010), and the “V Minas Gerais Symphonic Orchestra Young Soloist Competition” (2016). He also received the 2nd prize at the “III Sardoal Young Talent Award” in Portugal (2018), as well as prizes for Best Russian Piece and Best Brazilian Piece at the “13th Concours International de Piano Son Altesse Royale la Princesse Lalla Meryem” in Morocco (2018). Most recently, he won the 1st prize at the Munique Piano Competition (2021).
João has participated in masterclasses with renowned instructors, such as Geir Braaten, Thomas Mastroianni, Cyprien Katsaris, and Nikolai Lugansky, among others. He has performed in major concert halls across South America, Africa, and Europe, collaborating with prominent Brazilian orchestras. Additionally, João has been a featured artist at esteemed music festivals, showcasing both as a soloist and in an extensive chamber music repertoire across various countries, including Spain, Morocco, Germany, Portugal, Serbia, Croatia, Poland, and Italy.
